Death By Stereo – Into The Valley of Death – Review

Death By Stereo

Into The Valley of Death (Epitaph)
by Tim Den

Fuck yeah! Proving Day of the Death was no fluke, Death By Stereo are back to show you that relevant hardcore is still alive in the 21st century. Not only do they again deliver the savage riffing (Iron Maiden meets Black Flag) and the head-spinning drumming (courtesy of new Deathite Todd Hennig), the witty smartass politics are back as well. “I Wouldn’t Piss in Your Ear if Your Brain Was on Fire” smacks backstabbing scum in the face, “Shh, it’ll Be Our Little Secret” rapes (sorry for the pun) child-molesting Catholic priests, “Beyond the Blinders” stands up against the current imperialistic regime and its limp-dicked media counterparts, and “You’re a Bullshit Salesman With a Mouth Full of Samples” just about takes on everyone else.

If the lyrics alone don’t convince you that Death By Stereo are keeping hardcore’s tradition of fighting-without-giving-a-fuck, the punishment dealt by the murderous energy should bend you over and give you what you deserve. Seriously, it’s been a looooong time since American hardcore’s birthplace gave us another prophet to look to. Death By Stereo’s combination of smart politics, smart songwriting, quick fists, musical chops, and a willingness to spit in every redneck’s face will surely etch them into the underground history books.
