Last Man Standing (Shangri-La)
by Scott Hefflon

Jerry Lee Lewis does duets with Jimmy Page, B.B. King, Bruce Springsteen, Mick Jagger and Ronnie Wood, Neil Young, Robbie Robertson, John Fogerty, Keith Richards, Ringo Star, Merle Haggard, Kid Rock, Rod Stewart, George Jones, Willie Nelson, Toby Keith, Eric Clapton, Little Richard, Delaney Bramlett, Buddy Guy, Don Henley, and Kris Kristofferson. It’s amazing, a little uncomfortable, and sometimes oddly, well, off. Let’s face it, some of these guys are old as dirt, and their warble isn’t exactly as accurate as it used to be. So legendary status and distinctive style or not, some of the vocal pairings are like sitting between two old ladies in church and hearing their vibratos clash, smash, and cause you to blink rapidly and reach for the back of the pew in front of you for support.
